Waly 103.9 On-Air Personalities

Roger Corey

Roger knows this city! After all, he was born and raised here! WALY's Morning Man (and the younger half of Rog + Dick in the morning) is a seasoned radio veteran, racking up 30 years in broadcasting experience. Rog's career has taken him to West Virginia, Rochester, NY, and State College. He returned to WALY in 1991 to team up with long-time friend Dick DiAndrea. The rest, as they say, is radio history.

Rog enjoys travel (being a pilot doesn't hurt), and needs only Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and New Hampshire to wrap up all 50 states! Reading and music also rank high on Rog's Relaxation List. Roger's work in WALY's production studios is well-known. His many character voices make commercials stand out, and his technical expertise in digital editing is widely sought after. Roger's versatility in scoring music to his reads allows our clients to have the best commercials on the air.

Dick Di Andrea

Dick started in radio when he was 14, for one compelling reason-he loves music. He got a job at WRTA as a student announcer, paying 50 cents/hr and working 50 hours a week.

Dick moved on to WFBG a year later in 1961 as the nighttime personality. In September of that year, Dick successfully auditioned for the job as host of "Channel 10's Bandstand". Altoona's version of Dick Clark's American Bandstand lasted until 1965. Dick spent the next few years rising up the ranks at WVAM and WFBG.

Dick returned to radio in 1991 as the morning co-host of WALY's morning show featuring the new oldies format. Later that year, he was joined by Roger Corey on the morning show.

In the meantime, Dick has held "Bandstand Reunions" which were televised on Cable Access to packed crowds and sponsored by WALY 103.9. He also owns a successful advertising agency in Altoona, DiAndrea Media.

Bill Kurtis

As a child, Bill spent every last penny of his allowance to purchase the latest 45's at the time, and create his own makeshift radio station right in his own bedroom. He would spend hours creating imaginary radio shows, spinning the 45's, announcing weather and sports, often going by a crazy name like, "Harry Drinkwater," "Corey Stone", or "Mr. Bill"! In the early 80's, Bill was chosen out of 90 entries to be a DJ at Sir Skate of Altoona which in turn led to the position of Manager of Sir Skate of Altoona from 1984 to 1987. He continued to DJ The Adult Night crowd through 1992.

Bill got his start in the real radio world on WALY in 1991. He is no stranger to the radio airwaves in Central Pennsylvania, having worked in almost every radio format; including a stint as 'Larry Leaper" on FROGGY 98, and a year as the Night DJ from 7pm till Midnight up on the hill on WPRR-fm!
Bill spent 1992 to 1999 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he learned a lot by his endeavors to work at B94 on Mt. Washington, and at MIX-JAMZ in Millvale, PA, ...just outside of downtown Pittsburgh. He ended up Managing a terrific Peruvian/South American Restaurant for 4 years in Shadyside called "La Feria."
...Yes, our little Bill has 3 years of Food Service schooling, graduating at the top of his class!
He returned to Altoona to join WALY 103.9 full-time again in the fall of 1999. Bill spent a brief 9 months of 2001 in South Central Virginia on WZBB-fm, B99.9, on the air and as their Webmaster. He returned to full time on WALY again in December of 2001, and couldn't be happier than to spend his afternoons with you and the Best Variety of your favorite WALY Music!

Bill truly loves his family and his hometown of Altoona, PA and loves hosting "The Afternoon Cruise", weekdays from 2:00pm till 6:00pm. Join Bill for the second half of your workday, and for the "Cruise Home at 5!" He loves sharing "Famous Birthday's" with you at 2:20pm, and the "Birthday Spotlight Song!" Don't miss "The WALY Hall of Fame" at 4:20pm either, where he'll take you on a stroll down memory lane with facts and trivia about one of your favorite artists, groups or songs! Thanks for visiting us here at WALY1039.com. Why? Well, because Bill is also Webmaster for the family of Forever Broadcasting websites, here in Altoona, including waly1039.com.

Artie Dee

Artie Dee began in radio while still in High School in 1984, as a night host on WFBG-AM and continued until June of 1990. He also was on board at Froggy 98 for a while. Artie toiled at other stations until seeing the light in May 2001 and joined the staff of Forever Broadcasting, ... filling in part time, which led to his current gig as your 7:00pm to Midnight Host here at WALY 103.9!

When Artie Dee isn't working, he enjoys spending time with his wife Donna and their 2 cats, Mason and Dixon. He enjoys traveling, model train collecting, and DJ-ing weddings and parties.
Join Artie Dee weekdays for the overnight from Midnight till 6:00am. He will play all of your favorite WALY Music from the '60s, '70s, & '80s all night long!
