Welcome to Jay Parks, my new morning show co-host! Jay and I have been friends for a long time; we first met when I was fresh out of college, and I was in awe of his radio experience and deep, baritone voice. The ladies just loved him! Was I intimidated? Gosh, I was such a geek. I'd only been on college radio prior to my first gig in Altoona, and I'm happy to say that Jay was very sweet and kind and never poked fun at my very apparent jitters.
I guess that's what they call "full circle," because here we are hosting the WALY 103.9 morning show, and we are having so much fun! I am very happy there are no cameras in the WALY studios, because the other day while playing Sugar Ray's "Fly," both of us were diggin' the vibe and dancing in the studio. I guess that makes us both geeks but when you're having fun, why not let it out?
And we both love talking to you! Please--I want you always to feel welcome at WALY 103.9. There's nothing we love more than talking to fellow geeks who at the very least tap their toes to their favorite WALY tunes, and want to talk about all the silly things we enjoy, from American Idol to Lost to whether most women think about food more than sex. Oooh, I think about that last one a lot. Food, sex, which do I think about more? If you've known me for a while, then you remember my really fat years. Food has been an issue! I obsess about it, but...to be continued...
So, what about Dick? I love Dick, and I have only admiration and respect for him in my heart. He and I have worked at WALY for many years, and I have learned so much from him. On the air, he and I often seem to be in opposition, but if you listen closely, you can hear the laughter we've shared. It's like we're not afraid to trump each other for the laugh! When I took over mornings, he was so supportive, with many wise words of advice, and we were both ready to do the show together till his retirement. But a new opportunity has been presented to Dick , and love or hate him, the man is funny!
I promised to give him a big hug at work on Monday, and you can bet that's a promise I happily will fulfill. Dick, thank you for everything.
I'm looking forward to knowing you, and your opinions on myriad things...it's a new era and I'm enjoying it, on the new WALY 103.9!
