And so it goes: the launch of the New WALY 103.9 is December 26th; it's very exciting! I've agreed to jump into the fire by hosting the morning show with Dick DiAndrea. There's so much to do, so much to say...
The other day at work I was talking with my friend Andy about television shows, and why I didn't watch House. "The character is cool," I said, but the show is always the same. House stomps around, miserable and mean, for about 43 of the actual 45 minutes of a show without commercials, and then in the final moments, voila! he solves the week's mystery malady. It never changes. It's always the same template, different tantrum.

Andy laughed and said he wanted that last phrase on a t-shirt:
Same template, Different tantrum.

Yeah. I thought about that phrase, let it run around my head a few times, and decided it sounded like a great name for the blog I'd been planning for the WALY 103.9 website. It's kinda cool, a little mysterious, has alliteration, and it gives me license to rant, if necessary. Looking ahead to life with Dick DiAndrea...yup, I just might need to rant now and then!

But it also had me thinking about changes. Moving to mornings with Dick is a big change for me. Change is constant, it's inevitable, and it's fascinating how we humans sometimes embrace change, and sometimes resist it.

Once upon a time women couldn't vote. And I remember how shocked I was in grade school when I learned that "Mrs." is an abbreviation for "Mister's," meaning that by marrying a man, a woman became his property. That's a change we've been happy to embrace!

Once upon a time there was WHGM 103.9 in Bellwood. Some businessmen from Washington, D.C. bought it, changed the call letters to WALY, and launched it as an Adult Contemporary formatted station, with Steve Willet and Debbie Hoy hosting the morning show. Since then there have been many changes in ownership, format and staff... and there are more changes ahead as we launch the New WALY 103.9 on December 26th! Did I mention how exciting it is?! While I wasn't part of the station at the very beginning, I'm very proud of my life with WALY 103.9 and being part of our wonderful Blair County community for so long, and I'm looking foward to getting to know you on an entirely new level.

We all go through changes, don't we? I've gone through a lot too, and I thought it would be great to have a forum where I can talk to folks about things that might be important to us. You know, the earth-shattering stuff: Men. Weight. Food. Dating. Food. Celebrities. Men. Calories. The joy of a really sexy pair of shoes that also are comfortable. Chocolate or cheesecake (both, please). Aging beautifully. Men. Lost (how long till it's back on ABC?!) Portion size. The usual obsessions.

I'll be writing here pretty regularly, and I'd love to hear from you. Your thoughts on just about anything are welcome!
